I. Spirit Pylon
1. Design Positioning and Visual Logic
This Spirit Pylon serves as the core landmark within the city-scale wayfinding system for the Hangzhou Esports Center (Asian Games Esports Arena). It is designed to fully embody the venue's core design concept - "Interstellar Vortex / Interstellar Warship" - and fulfills three primary functions:
• Long-Distance Recognition: Acting as a visual anchor for the venue's main entrance, it is clearly visible from the Shixiang Road Viaduct and surrounding thoroughfares, thereby reinforcing the venue's status as a prominent urban landmark.
• Brand Unification: It replicates the venue's architectural language on a 1:1 scale, establishing a cohesive visual ecosystem that seamlessly integrates "Architecture, Landscape, and Wayfinding."
• Experiential Extension: It captures the technological sophistication and futuristic aesthetic inherent to esports culture, serving as a central focal point for visitor photo opportunities and brand promotion.
2. Form and Structural Details
• Overall Form: It features a minimalist, futuristic aesthetic characterized by a vertical cylindrical column with angled facets. Standing approximately 8–10 meters tall, it meets the standard visibility height requirements for urban public wayfinding signage.
• Top Emblem: Embedded at the apex is the venue's exclusive logo - a black, circular esports symbol - designed to reinforce brand recall.
• Typography System:
◦ Primary Visual: The venue's name, "Hangzhou Esports Center," is displayed in large-scale vertical blackletter typography. Utilizing a combination of incised carving, color inlay, and internal illumination techniques, the text ensures legibility under all lighting and weather conditions.
◦ Auxiliary Text: Positioned beneath the primary text, the English translation - "HANGZHOU ESPORTS CENTER" - is included to cater to the requirements of international-level competitions.
• Facade Design: The lower section features an openwork geometric pattern composed of triangular perforations. This design echoes the high-tech texture of the anodized aluminum panels used on the venue's main facade while simultaneously creating a lightweight structure that minimizes wind resistance.
3. Materials and Craftsmanship (Tailored to Hangzhou's Outdoor Environment)
• Primary Materials: The structure utilizes the same materials found on the venue's main facade - specifically, 304-grade stainless steel and anodized aluminum panels - offering the following attributes:
◦ Exceptional Weather Resistance: Highly resistant to UV radiation and corrosion, the materials are engineered to withstand Hangzhou's specific climate - characterized by frequent rainfall, high temperatures, and high humidity - ensuring they remain unfaded and free of deformation for over a decade.
◦ Metallic Aesthetic: Featuring a brushed silver finish, the surface reflects the surrounding sky and environment during the day. This effect visually lightens the perceived mass of the structure, perfectly aligning with the sci-fi atmosphere of the "Interstellar Warship" theme.
• Craftsmanship Details:
◦ Laser cutting combined with CNC bending ensures the precision of curved surfaces and intricate cutout patterns.
◦ Fluorocarbon coating or anodizing treatments enhance surface hardness and stain resistance.
◦ Integrated LED lighting system (optional): Illuminates text and logos at night, establishing the structure as a prominent landmark within the urban nightscape.
• Structural Safety: Features a galvanized steel framework supported by independent reinforced concrete foundations; rated to withstand wind forces of Level 12 or higher, fully complying with Hangzhou's safety regulations for large-scale outdoor signage.
4. Location and Functional Value
• Installation Site: Positioned to the right of the venue's main entrance plaza, directly facing the main urban thoroughfare and pedestrian flow; serves as the very first visual touchpoint for visitors entering the venue.
• Functional Extensions:
◦ Wayfinding: Clearly indicates the venue's location and guides pedestrian traffic.
◦ Photo Spot: Forms a synergistic photo opportunity in conjunction with the adjacent thematic sculpture, becoming a viral "check-in" landmark for Hangzhou's esports culture.
◦ Event Adaptability: Allows for the temporary addition of specific event logos and sponsor branding during competitions, meeting the diverse requirements of major events.
II. Thematic Sculpture
1. Design Background and Creative Concept
This sculpture is a bespoke landscape feature dedicated exclusively to the Esports events of the Hangzhou Asian Games. It was created by the original design team behind the Hangzhou Asian Games mascots (a team from the China Academy of Art). Key highlights include:
• IP Integration: Modeled after "Chenchen" - one of the Asian Games mascots (serving as the visual focal point in the image, featuring a dominant blue palette, and symbolizing the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal) - the sculpture features a custom-designed, dynamic pose specific to esports athleticism.
• Architectural Resonance: The sculpture's main body employs a multi-layered, spiraling ring structure that serves as a 1:1 scale replica of the venue's own "Interstellar Vortex" double-curved facade design, thereby achieving visual harmony between the sculpture and the architecture.
• Esports Theme: The design incorporates elements such as computer keyboards and futuristic "esports armor," vividly capturing the "fusion of virtual and reality" inherent to competitive gaming, while simultaneously echoing the overarching design theme of "The Winning Strike."
2. Form and Detail Analysis
• Main Structure: Composed of three concentric metal rings nested within one another, creating a visual effect akin to a "Space-Time Tunnel" that accentuates the futuristic aesthetic of esports.
◦ Dynamic Pose: Chenchen is depicted in a dynamic esports stance - simultaneously operating a keyboard and leaping into the air in celebration - faithfully capturing the intense focus and unbridled passion exhibited by esports athletes during competition.
◦ • Detail Design: Incorporates esports-themed elements - such as pixel art aesthetics and "cyber-purple" accents - to perfectly complement the venue's high-tech atmosphere.
◦ Dual-Figure Design: The sculpture features two distinct figures - a "real-world player" and a "virtual game character" - creating a dynamic interplay between reality and the virtual realm that vividly captures the digital essence of esports.
• Interactive Design: An AR-enabled QR code is positioned next to the sculpture; scanning the code triggers special AR effects, delivering an immersive "online-meets-offline" interactive photo-op experience.
3. Materials and Craftsmanship
• Main Framework: Constructed from 304 stainless steel with a fluorocarbon coating to ensure exceptional outdoor weather resistance and structural integrity.
• Mascot Sculpture: Crafted from fiberglass and finished with automotive-grade paint, offering vibrant colors, highly accurate detail reproduction, and UV resistance to prevent fading.
• Base Design: Features a gray concrete base inscribed with the project name and directional arrows to guide pedestrian flow.
