How Often Should Sculptures and Ornaments in Scenic Areas Be Cleaned?

The cleaning cycle for sculptures and ornaments in scenic areas needs to be determined based on a combination of materials and environment. Different materials have different weather resistance, requiring different maintenance frequencies. The following are suggestions based on material and placement environment:

1. Stone Sculptures (e.g., marble, granite, sandstone)

Indoor Environment: Clean every 3–6 months. With less dust, focus on surface dust removal and gloss maintenance.

Outdoor Environment: Check every 1–2 months. In rainy seasons or heavily polluted areas, monthly cleaning is recommended to prevent efflorescence and moss growth.

Large Stone Sculptures (e.g., Guanyin statues): A comprehensive maintenance service can be scheduled annually, including deep cleaning and application of a protective agent.

2. Metal Sculptures (e.g., bronze, stainless steel, wrought iron)

Indoor Metal Sculptures: Check every 1–2 months. Cleaning intervals can be set at 2–3 months, focusing on preventing fingerprints and oxidation.

Outdoor Metal Sculptures:

Bronze Sculptures: Inspect every 3 months to prevent the spread of green rust; apply anti-oxidation treatment if necessary.

Stainless Steel Sculptures: Clean every 1-2 months, especially in high humidity or coastal areas to prevent chloride ion corrosion.

Cast Iron/Carbon Steel Sculptures: Monthly inspection recommended; strengthen rust prevention treatment during the rainy season and touch up paint promptly.

3. Wooden Sculptures

Indoor Placement: Inspect monthly and dust with a dry cloth to prevent mold or insect infestation caused by moisture.

Outdoor Wooden Sculptures: Not recommended for long-term outdoor placement. If must be placed outdoors, inspect every 2-4 weeks, focusing on preventing mold, cracking, and insects.

4. Fiberglass Sculptures (FRP Material)

Indoor: Clean every 2-3 months. Highly stain-resistant; daily wiping with a damp cloth is sufficient.

Outdoors: Clean every 1–2 months. In areas with strong UV radiation, check the coating for signs of aging or fading.
